Hosting the competition is Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, Rice Universitys initiative for commercialising technology, education for entrepreneurship and founding of tech companies, and Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. The competing teams can win up to 1,5 million USD and will pitch to over 300 judges, mainly venture capitalists and other investors. Modvion develops modular wind power towers made of renewable composite. The modular concept makes it easier to transport and build high towers, something that often causes problem because of the european limit for the width of transported goods is 4,5 meters. This will in the end enable higher towers and by that increased production of electricity. Modvion is a part of Encubation at Chalmers Ventures.
