A PARADOXICAL APPROACH TO INNOVATION: HOW METABOXICAL (OUT OF THE BOX) THINKING CAN EXPAND THE “BOX” – KEN MULLIGAN
Nobel Prize winning physicist Richard Feynman observed that the “problem of creating something which is new, but which is consistent with everything which has been seen before, is one of extreme difficulty.”
Using our imaginations to think of something that has never been seen before while “limited by the conditions that come from our knowledge of the way nature really is” requires a paradoxical approach to explore the impossible and improbable while simultaneously observing the laws of nature. To solve “a problem that we have never solved before, we must leave the door to the unknown ajar.”
In this talk, Ken explores how Metaboxical thinking can resolve this apparent paradox using a systematic approach to creativity and innovation which simultaneously uses the contents of the Box and expands the Box.
Ken Mulligan is an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at Arizona State University. He teaches Technology Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Mindset and Strategic Enterprise Innovation in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and New Venture Development in the WP Carey School of Business at ASU. He is a mentor and advisor to several startups focused on Regenerative Medicine, Cyber Security and Blockchain.
